Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has made some serious claims about Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to Wike during a Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday, Lawal’s criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration stem from being overlooked for the vice-presidential spot.
He said, “When Mr President chose his vice-presidential candidate, I was one of those Babachir Lawal visited. He came to my house in Port Harcourt. What was his anger?
“His anger was that he thought Mr President would have chosen him as the vice-presidential candidate. Having not done that, he let loose.”
Lawal recently criticised the Tinubu administration for its performance and governance style.
According to Wike, Lawal’s discontent was evident from the way he reacted.
“It was very clear, we are not kids. Even a child who is intelligent would know where your anger is,” the minister said.
The former Rivers State governor suggested Lawal should have addressed his concerns directly with President Tinubu instead of publicly criticizing him
Lawal has been vocal about his disagreements with Tinubu’s policies and governance style.
In a recent statement, Lawal expressed concerns about the impact of Tinubu’s reforms on the economy, particularly in Northern Nigeria, vowing that the North will mobilise against the president’s re-election bid in 2027.
