Yilwatda confirms Fubara as APC leader in Rivers

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as the leader of the party in Rivers State.

Yilwatda also pledged to support Fubara’s second term bid if he wins the party’s primaries.

Speaking on Channels Television, Yilwatda stated that “Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers State, but he would need to coordinate with every other person in the state.”

This comes amid the renewed political tension between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike over leadership postion in the state.

Fubara had earlier in December, after defecting to the APC, declared himself as the leader of the party in the state, after being presented with the party card that bears 001.

But Wike had dismissed the governor’s stance, saying he controls the political structure in the state, since APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have teamed up to support President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Yilwatda said, “I don’t choose who to support in the state’s primary election. If Fubara emerges as the APC candidate, I’ll support him.

“If he loses the primary, I’ll sympathise with him and go with the person who wins the primary election,” he said.
