Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

The development was confirmed on Monday night by Bashir Ahmad, a former special assistant on digital communications to the late ex-president, amid growing speculation on social media about Yusuf’s political ambitions.

According to a letter dated April 3 and reportedly signed by Yusuf, he has notified key stakeholders of his decision to vie for the federal legislative seat representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the letter, Yusuf expressed optimism about his candidacy and his desire to contribute meaningfully to governance and development in his constituency.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter stated.

Ahmad, in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, corroborated the announcement, noting that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and supporters.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” Ahmad wrote.

Yusuf Buhari has largely maintained a low public profile since his father left office, making this declaration his most significant political step so far and signaling a potential entry into Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
