Alleged fraud: CSOs demand suspension of Kano appointees

A coalition of 20 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Kano State has called for the immediate suspension and prosecution of senior government officials implicated in alleged corruption cases totaling over N7 billion.

The CSOs, in a statement signed by over 20 leaders, which includes Comrade Bala Abdullahi Gaduwama of Wuro Development Concerns, Yusha’u Sani Yankuzo of CEFSAN, and Fatima A. Ibrahim of the United Action for Democracy, warned that the scandals have eroded public trust and threaten the state’s economic stability.

The coalition cited two recent cases: a N1.02 billion money laundering scheme allegedly involving the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi, and a N6.5 billion diversion scandal linked to the Director-General of Protocol, Government House, Kano, Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo.

The CSOs described these cases as “not isolated incidents” but rather a “disturbing pattern of systemic abuse of public office” with far-reaching implications.

They demanded that the government “suspend all implicated officials pending investigation outcomes, cooperate fully with anti-graft agencies for swift and transparent prosecution, and conduct an independent forensic audit of state finances”.

The coalition also advocated for stronger legislative oversight, whistleblower protection, and quarterly publication of state financial reports to ensure transparency while also urging residents to remain vigilant, emphasising that corruption betrays the future of Kano’s citizens.

The CSOs’ demands aim to restore public trust and promote accountability in governance, highlighting the need for decisive action against corruption in Kano State.
