Buhari stable, responding to treatment -Aide

Bashir Ahmad, an aide to the former president Muhammadu Buhari, has confirmed that his principal is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention.

Earlier, it was reported that the former president, who left office on 29 May 2023 after serving two terms, has been abroad since April. The reports claimed that sources close to Buhari’s family, disclosed that the former President initially travelled to the United Kingdom for what was described as a routine medical check-up, but subsequently took ill.

However, Ahmad, on Thursday, stated that the reports were exaggerated, noting that the former President is stable and responding to treatment.

He, however, did not confirm or deny claims that Buhari was flown abroad for treatment.

He wrote, “In light of the recent media reports suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we find it necessary to set the record straight.

“It is true that former President Buhari is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention. However, contrary to the exaggerated claims circulating in the media, he is stable and responding well to treatment and we are optimistic about his full recovery.”

He thanked supporters and well-wishers of the former President who have been praying for his recovery.
