Destroy parking signages and face wrath of the law, LASPA speaks tough

The Lagocs State Parking Authority (LASPA), has warned that any resident caught destroying a road signage in the state will face the wrath of the law.

The decision was reached on Friday during a press conference in Lagos.

Dunkwu Divine, the Head, Public Affairs, LASPA quoted the agency’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu of reeling out the importance of the signages.

Adelabu noted that the signages were erected across the state for an improved parking culture as well as the safety and benefit of motorists.

The statement read partly, “‎She informed that the signages which are strategically installed across the State at different road locations are used in regulating parking activities, ensuring traffic flow and enhancing public safety.

“‎Adelabu further emphasised that the signages are part of public infrastructure meant to enhance model parking, stressing that it is a criminal offense for any individual or group to tamper with any of the parking infrastructure and signages.”

She noted that chapter 17, section 35 of the Criminal Law Code of Nigeria, states that “Unlawful interference with property, Any person who unlawfully disconnects, removes, tampers, meddles with or in any manner interferes with the use of any private or public property commits a felony and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for three (3) years”

Condemning the act, Adelabu maintained that vandalism of parking signages poses a threat to public safety, disrupts the smooth flow of traffic, and creates inconvenience for motorists seeking parking spaces.

She continued, “LASPA condemns totally in the strongest terms the destruction of the State Parking signages and would not hesitate to take necessary legal measures to ensure perpetrators are brought to book.

“LASPA is committed to improving the state’s parking infrastructures and will soon deploy more road parking signages across various areas in the State.”

The GM urged residents with useful information regarding vandalism or suspicious activities involving the parking infrastructure to report to authorities.
