McPherson varsity gets second substantive librarian

The management of McPherson University has appointed Dr. Jerome Idiegbeyan-Ose, as the second substantive librarian.

A letter dated April 9, 2025, and signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Rev. Dr. Babatunde Idowu, read in part, “I have the pleasure to inform you that the Board of Trustees of McPherson University, at its meeting of March 13, 2025, approved the recommendations of the selection panel of the Governing Council that you be appointed as the university librarian.”

A statement by the Tokunbo Olakunle,
Deputy Registrar, Information & Public Relations, described Idiegbeyan-Ose as a highly experienced and dedicated professional with over two decades of expertise in Library and Information Science, academic leadership, and institutional development.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from the Edo State University, Ekpoma, in 1999, and a Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Ibadan in 2007. He obtained his PhD in Information Resources Management (Library and Information Science) from Babcock University (2017). He is a registered member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Library Association, the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria, and holds the title of Certified Librarian of Nigeria.

Ahead of his appointment as the institution’s librarian, Idiegbeyan-Ose has had credible stints in other tertiary institutions, such as Wolex Polytechnic, Lagos (2002–2003 as librarian/lecturer); Benson Idahosa University, Benin City (2003–2011); Covenant University, Ota (2011–2018); and Landmark University, Omu-Aran (2018–2020), where he served as university librarian before taking on his most previous role as polytechnic librarian at the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji (2020–2025).

Armed with years of impactful leadership, innovation, and commitment to academic excellence, Idiegbeyan-Ose is expected to bring transformative contributions to McPherson University’s library, as he formally resumed duties on Friday, May 2, 2025.
