Police arraign man, 50, over alleged unlawful cattle grazing

The Police in Ekiti, on Friday, arraigned 50-year-old Ladan Abubakar before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged unlawful cattle grazing.

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawful grazing of cattle.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 1 at about 07:30am at Ewu-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the defendant unlawfully grazed his cattle in an authorised place.

He said the offence contravened Section 2 and was punishable under Section 7 of the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing Law of Ekiti State.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Counsel for the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case to May 12 for a hearing.
