
The Super Eagles have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic passing of its former goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.
The 61-year-old legendary keeper who appeared in two World Cups and the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph for the national team died on Thursday after a long illness that kept him out of the public eye.
Confirming his death, the Nigerian national team through its official X page paid tribute to the goal stopper, known otherwise as Dodo Mayana.
Super Eagles wrote, “🇳🇬🕊️ Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana.
“We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion.
“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai. 💚”
