Dr Adesida Adewumi, a Consultant Family Physician, has revealed that couples who engage in regular sex tend to live longer than those with less frequent sexual activity. He said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.According to Adewumi, sexual activity has a range of health benefits, including improving lifespan, boosting the immune system, promoting better sleep, lowering blood pressure, and reducing mental and physical stress. He explained that regular sex could also lower the risk of stroke and heart attacks, alleviate body pain and headaches, and even help prevent certain cancers.“Regular sex reduces the risk of prostate and breast cancers. For men, ejaculating 21 times a month significantly lowers the risk of prostate cancer.“It also helps burn calories, making it a good option for those who are overweight or obese, as it acts like regular exercise when performed at least three times a week on alternate days.“Additionally, it can help lower high blood sugar levels,” Adewumi stated.Adewumi further emphasised that regular sex contributed to better mental health by reducing the risk of depression and anxiety. He also noted that it enhanced brain function, leading to improved productivity and career fulfilment.Pregnancy, Adewumi explained that pregnant women who engage in regular sex tend to experience easier labor and quicker post-delivery recovery. He added that women who had more frequent sex during pregnancy were more likely to have smoother deliveries.“Sexual activity also fosters emotional well-being by increasing intimacy and love between couples.“Couples who have regular sex tend to be happier, more logical, and less irritable.“It can help reduce loneliness, make arguments less frequent, and even improve memory and cognitive function,” said Adewumi. He also pointed out that couples who maintain a healthy sexual relationship have stronger bonds with others, both socially and at work. For women, Adewumi recommended having regular sex a few days before their menstrual cycle begins, as it could help reduce cramps. While highlighting the numerous benefits of regular sex, Adewumi emphasised the importance of engaging in it within the context of a committed relationship. He stressed that this approach helped protect individuals from sexually transmitted diseases such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus, herpes, and hepatitis.By focusing on a monogamous relationship, Adewumi noted, individuals could significantly reduce their risk of exposure to these harmful infections.Adewumi’s advice underscores the significant physical, emotional, and psychological benefits of regular sexual activity, particularly when practiced with a partner.============================================Police detain suspected cultist, recover firearms.Temisan OlaifaOperatives of the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, have detained a 45-year-old man for alleged cultism and illegal possession of firearms. The Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Umma Ayuba, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.Ayuba said that the Assistant Inspector–General of Police (AIG), Mr Adegoke Fayoade, in charge of the Zone comprising Lagos and Ogun, received an intelligence report on the activities of some suspected cultists.“With the intelligence at the disposal of the AIG about the criminal activities, hideout and plans of some suspected members of Eiye fraternity terrorising Ijebu-Ife axis of Ogun led to the deployment of the Officer-in-charge of Zonal Dragon Squad II, led by DSP Akeem Adeyemi for a discrete operation.“On March 19, the hideout of the said cult group was raided while they were planning an attack, the suspect was apprehended as others escaped through a nearby bush, ” she saidAyuba said that the suspect led the team to his residence where some exhibits were recovered:“One locally made single barrel pistol, six live cartridges, 21 voter cards with different names (suspected to be fake), and one emerald pump action gun with breach No. 1335 were recovered, ” he said.According to her, the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court after the investigation.
