The death of Isabella Ajana, a law student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has caused an uproar in the institution.
Her colleagues are demanding justice for the deceased who died because of the alleged carelessness of her hostel mistress, identified simply as Madam Bright.
It was reported that the student and her roommates who occupied Elmada Hostel in UNIZIK had approached the hostel mistress for a replacement of their lost key.
Madam Bright was said to have mandated that the students pay a certain fee for the spare key in line with the hostel’s policy
The price for the spare key was allegedly pegged at N120,000 and the three roommates had to bring N40,000 each.
A source in the institution claimed that, “The students begged that they could not afford that amount right away and Ajana – said to be diabetic – desperately needed her insulin medications.
“However, their pleas were ignored and Ajana’s condition deteriorated until she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital on Sunday, July 6, and she died on Wednesday, July 9.”
At the moment, the students are seeking justice with the hashtag, “#Justice4Ajana”.
