The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops to sustain pressure on terrorists in the North-East region, emphasising the need for continued vigilance against Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
The information officer of the Joint Task Force (JTF) operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, made this known in a statement he issued on Thursday.
The Army Chief’s directive was given during an operational assessment visit to the Joint Task Force (JTF) headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he reviewed the security situation, assessed the effectiveness of ongoing operations, and sought to enhance collaboration with other security agencies in the region.
In his address, the Army Chief praised the troops’ resilience but cautioned against complacency, emphasizing that recent successes should not lead to a letdown in their efforts to combat terrorism.
The statement reads, “The Chief of Army Staff has charged troops of Operation Hadin Kai to sustain vigilance, avoid complacency, and maintain an aggressive posture in ongoing operations against terrorists in the North-East.”
The Army Chief also held meetings with theatre commanders, stressing the importance of enhanced coordination and more effective intelligence gathering to bolster counter-terrorism efforts.
He called for “continued operational aggressiveness to deny terrorists freedom of action across the theatre,” stressing that the military must remain several steps ahead of insurgent groups.
During the visit, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the COAS on ongoing activities, emerging threats and operational challenges faced by troops on the frontline
