The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted sharply to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent defection to the Accord Party, dismissing the move as a “good riddance to bad rubbish.”
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, by APC Chairman Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the party criticised Adeleke’s decision, stating it won’t shield him from an impending defeat in the forthcoming governorship election.
Adeleke, who announced his switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Accord Party with much fanfare at the Government House in Osogbo on Tuesday, was accused by the APC of abandoning his party and elected officials for personal gain amid PDP’s internal crises.
“A good leader would have tackled the party’s problems head-on instead of exiting,” the statement read.
The APC questioned Adeleke’s motives, pointing out his alleged rejection by several major parties prior to Accord Party’s reluctant acceptance, describing it as an exit strategy from a dwindling political career.
“If his governance was commendable, why was he rejected by other parties?” the statement queried, adding that the administration’s “best isn’t beneficial for Osun’s development.”
The party expressed confidence in winning the next governorship election, citing their preparations and the people’s dissatisfaction with Adeleke’s “misgovernance” over the past three years.
“The people of Osun will be happy to see him leave Bola Ige House next year,” the APC said, dismissing Adeleke’s projects like the Okefia Flyover as inadequate.
The statement also mocked the curses previously directed at PDP defectors by party officials, implying Adeleke’s challenges are more profound.
The Osun APC vows to pursue victory “based on acceptability and preparation, following the rules of law.”
