In a bid to deepen bilateral relations and foster regional cooperation, Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, held talks with The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sering Modou Njie.

The meeting, announced via the Presidency’s X page on Tuesday, covered key areas of collaboration including security, trade, defence, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The ministers also reviewed preparations for the next Nigeria-Gambia Joint Commission, set for early 2026, aiming to translate political commitment into tangible outcomes.

Highlighting Nigeria’s support for The Gambia’s post-2017 transition, the discussions emphasized mutual respect for sovereignty, democratic governance, and institutional continuity.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a deliberate and consistent regional cooperation that advances West Africa’s integration and long-term development.

The engagement underscores a shared vision for strengthened ties and collective progress in the sub-region.

“Our discussions were centred on how to take our relations beyond political rhetoric into practical partnerships that benefit our peoples,” Minister Tuggar said, emphasising the importance of economic and social ties.

“We are committed to working together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in West Africa, leveraging our shared values and history,” Minister Njie added.

The ministers expressed optimism that the upcoming Joint Commission would serve as a catalyst for boosting trade, security cooperation, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
