38 detained AAU students will be released soon – Tinubu’s aide

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Hon. Asefon Sunday Dayo, has announced that the 38 Ambrose Alli University (AAU) students arrested in connection with the recent Ekpoma protest are set to be released soon, easing tensions surrounding their detention.

The Presidential aide gave the hint on Tuesday Abuja, while providing an update on the arrest of the students in Ekpoma.

The 52 students of Ambrose Alli University were arrested during a peacefully protest against the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity affecting students and their host communities.

But Asefon in a statement said, “We are pleased to report that 38 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) who were arrested in connection with the recent protest in Ekpoma will be released shortly.

“This positive development is a result of the timely and constructive interventions of the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo; Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, minister of youth development comr Ayo Olawande, the workerholic Commissioner for Education in Edo State, SUG President Ambrose Ali and the unwavering efforts of the comrade community.

“We appreciate the commitment of all stakeholders to dialogue, due process, and the welfare of students, and we commend their roles in ensuring a peaceful resolution of the matter”.
