The Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has announced the arrest of Chinedu Eze, a suspected armed robber.

The arrest was made after Amotekun operatives on routine patrol responded to a distress alert from a motorist who was attacked on the Ilesa–Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday, according to a statement by Amotekun Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass on Friday.

The suspect, Eze, was apprehended following a failed robbery attempt.

The motorist, identified as Maxwell Phillips from Benue State, was said to have approached operatives attached to the Ilesa Area Command at about 12:20 a.m, informing them of suspicious activities by armed men on the road.

“The patrol team immediately mobilised to the location mentioned by the motorist in a bid to prevent further attacks on road users.

“On arrival, the operatives reportedly encountered suspected robbers who were attempting to stop vehicles along the expressway,” the statement said.

It was gathered that the suspects abandoned their operation and fled into nearby bushes upon noticing the presence of Amotekun personnel.

However, Eze, a 32-year-old man from Ebonyi State was apprehended during the pursuit.

Items allegedly recovered from the suspect include a cutlass, a torchlight and a locally fabricated wooden object designed to resemble an AK-47 rifle.

“The recovered items were believed to have been used to threaten and intimidate motorists during the attempted robbery.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in the operation and disclosed that his accomplices escaped into the bush,” the statement concluded.
