A commercial bus has caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge near the UNILAG Waterfront, inward Iyana Oworo, causing heavy traffic congestion on the route.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed the incident in a post on X (Formerly Twitter) on Monday.
The statement reads, “A commercial bus has caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge near the UNILAG Waterfront, inward Iyana Oworo. Fire Service officials are currently on the scene making concerted efforts to extinguish the blaze.
“The incident has led to significant traffic congestion, with the backlog now extending to Adekunle. Motorists are advised to exercise patience on approach.”
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders were working to put out the fire and restore normal traffic flow.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Recall that on Sunday, LASTMA operatives rescued a truck driver trapped in the tractor head along Shagamu Road at Oke Gbegun, near Lagos State Polytechnic, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
According to a statement shared on the official X handle of the traffic agency, LASTMA confirmed that the incident was reported about midnight, a fully loaded 40-foot containerised truck experienced brake failure and overturned.
“When we got the call, the driver was still inside the cabin. It was a tense situation because the truck was fully loaded, and the angle of the overturn made the rescue challenging.
