The Enugu State Police Command has taken into custody 15 individuals found in possession of a firearm and substances suspected to be marijuana sativa.

The Enugu Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, announced in a statement on Friday that the suspects were arrested during a raid by the command’s Crack Tactical Squad on February 16.

Ndukwe said the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided suspected criminal hideouts in Ozalla Community’s Four Corner area, Nkanu West LGA.

He said 15 suspects, including nine males and six females, were arrested in the operation.

“Two polythene bags filled with dried weed suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered from the suspects.

“A further search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

“The suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening.

“Those found not culpable will be released while those found culpable will be duly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.

Ndukwe said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, had directed supervisory officers in charge of operations and investigations to sustain the command’s proactive crime-fighting strategy.

He said that the commissioner had directed them to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts as well as detain and prosecute offenders.

The spokesman also appealed to residents to keep supporting the police with timely information.
