Two people have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) at Ikosi-Ketu for dumping waste indiscriminately.

This was contained in a Friday statement on the agency’s X page titled, “Environmental Enforcement Update | Ikosi–Ketu.”

Officials from the agency’s Waste Surveillance, Investigation and Enforcement team carried out the arrest at the Ikosi Y-Junction median near the LAMATA BRT Bus Yard.

The agency said, “Operatives of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Waste Surveillance, Investigation and Enforcement have apprehended two environmental defaulters at the Ikosi Y-Junction median, by the LAMATA BRT Bus Yard, Ikosi–Ketu.

“The suspects were subsequently taken to the Special Environmental Offences Mobile Court, Oshodi, for prosecution in line with extant environmental laws.”

The offenders were identified as James Aderele, 25, from Osun State, and Ajoke Ayinde, 37, from Oyo State.

The suspects were said to have been taken to the Special Environmental Offences Mobile Court in Oshodi for prosecution.

Reaffirming its stance on sanitation, the agency added, “LAWMA reiterates that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and proactive—see something, say something. Protecting our environment is everybody’s job.”

The Lagos State Government similarly arraigned 17 individuals over environmental offences of urinating and defecating in public places.
