Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended his warm congratulations to Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu described the appointment as “well deserved”, citing Disu’s over three decades of dedicated service in the Nigeria Police Force.
The governor recalled Disu’s tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he demonstrated a deep understanding of the city’s dynamics and led with focus and courage.
“In Lagos, we saw his leadership up close, especially during his time as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad. He understood the streets and the people, and he approached the job with focus and courage,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor expressed confidence that Disu would bring the same level of leadership to his new role, emphasising the need for an accountable and effective police force in Nigeria.
“I am confident he will bring that same clarity of purpose to this new role. Nigeria needs a police force that is accountable and effective, and I believe he has the experience and strength of character to lead that effort,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu concluded by wishing Disu success in his new position, saying “Lagos is proud” of his achievement.
Recall that Tinubu named Disu as the acting IGP following the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who cited family reasons for stepping down.
