Former First Lady of Oyo State and ambassador-designate to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has denied allegations linking her to an alleged scheme to induce members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a statement released by her media office on Tuesday, Ajimobi dismissed the claims as unfounded and deliberately misleading, describing them as a calculated attempt to damage her reputation and misinform the public.
The rebuttal follows a series of denials by lawmakers who were also named in the alleged plot. Among them are the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, and the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, both of whom have publicly rejected any involvement in moves to destabilise the state government or accept financial inducements.
Ajimobi specifically refuted claims that she hosted or participated in any meeting—either in Lagos or elsewhere—where discussions about influencing the legislature or orchestrating an impeachment were held.
“At no time did Ambassador Ajimobi convene, attend or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilising the Oyo State Government,” the statement said.
She further described attempts to associate her with the alleged plot as malicious political propaganda, aimed at discrediting her standing among the people of Oyo State and beyond.
“Activities of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation,” she stated.
Reaffirming her commitment to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement, Ajimobi maintained that she has never been involved in actions capable of undermining the stability of the state.
Her media office also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that such reports could heighten political tension if left unchecked.
It added that appropriate legal steps may be taken should the allegations persist without retraction.
The statement concluded that Ajimobi remains focused on her humanitarian initiatives and public service, insisting that she would not be distracted by what it described as baseless and mischievous claims.
