Former Minister of Transportation and presidential hopeful, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party, completing his registration at Ward 8 in Ubima, Rivers State.

The event was marked by tension after the ADC office in Ubima was set ablaze early Friday morning, with Amaechi’s family house also coming under attack with heavy gunfire.

Despite the violence, Amaechi remained resolute, urging his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid retaliation.

“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” he said.

In a statement he signed personally, Amaechi commended security agencies, including the police and Department of State Services (DSS), for their swift response to the attacks, saying, “We thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS. They showed a lot of professionalism. In fact, I wasn’t expecting that from them; I thought they would be behind the criminals”.

The former governor also called for the prosecution of those responsible for the attacks, stressing that such acts of intimidation would not deter the party’s activities in the state.
