The former Governor of Sokoto State and one time speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has finally switched party from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly reinvigorated Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal announced his decision in a statement on Thursday, saying he had formally communicated his resignation to his ward chairman in writing after “deep reflection and consultations”.
Senator Tambuwal is one time speaker of the House of Representatives , two-term Governor of Sokoto State and current Seantor of the 10th National Assembly.
He has switched political parties a few occasions and always emerged victorious .
Senator Tambuwal posted on his official X handle, “Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing.”
In an emotionally laden tune Tambuwal acknowledged that, “The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful.”
He said his former party impacted greatly on his political career from his days as Speaker of the House of Representatives, two terms as Governor of Sokoto State and sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but for the PDP’s internal decline, it became impossible for him to continue as a member.
For him, the decision to switch to the wave-making ADC was because the party is poised to provide Nigeria with a more powerful means of advancing democracy.
“I am convinced that this decision is guided by my belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.”
Senator Tambuwal reaffirmed his dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity.
The current switch may not come to many as a shock following Senator Tambuwal’s full participations in the coalition from the begining and his strong alignment with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who he served as campaign Director General during the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the PDP.
Tambuwal has joined the likes of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the labour party in the 2023 general elections who has just officially switched to the ADC.
