The Nigeria Police Force has announced disciplinary measures against officers involved in the fatal shooting incident that occurred on 26 April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State, which led to the death of Mr Mene Ogidi.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid on Wednesday.

He noted that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, had earlier directed that all personnel connected to the incident be immediately withdrawn from the Delta State Command and moved to Force Headquarters in Abuja for investigation and disciplinary review.

Following the conclusion of internal proceedings by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), the Police said it established that the principal officer involved, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, breached established rules on the use of firearms as contained in Force Order 237 and other operational guidelines.

“The officer’s conduct amounted to a serious violation of professional standards and the ethical duty of protecting life,” the Force stated, describing the actions as unlawful and unacceptable within the police institution.

Based on the committee’s findings, the FDC reportedly recommended the dismissal of ASP Usman alongside other officers found culpable.

“The recommendations have since been approved by the Inspector-General of Police and forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final ratification, in line with official procedures,” the statement added.

The Force further disclosed that, upon completion of administrative processes, the affected officers will be transferred to relevant judicial authorities for prosecution over their alleged involvement in the extrajudicial shooting.

Reaffirming its position, the Inspector-General stressed that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for abuse of power and unlawful use of firearms.

“No officer is permitted to take life outside the boundaries of the law. Any breach of this principle will attract both disciplinary and criminal consequences,” the statement added.

The police leadership also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, Mr Mene Ogidi, acknowledging the pain caused by the incident and assuring that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion.

The Force urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that it remains committed to accountability, professionalism, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
