Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In a condolence message on Friday, Atiku described the news of her passing as “a shocking development,” while extending his sympathies to the El-Rufai family and their associates.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” he wrote, adding, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the El-Rufai family and friends and pray that Allah (SWT) accepts her soul and grant her Al-Janna Firdaus.”
The former presidential candidate noted that the late matriarch lived a fulfilled life marked by dignity and service to her family and community. He further described her as a woman of deep faith whose legacy would be remembered by those who knew her.
Atiku also pointed out that her passing on a Friday, the Islamic holy day of Jumu’ah, offers some measure of comfort to the bereaved family.
He prayed for divine comfort for the family, asking Allah to ease their grief and grant the deceased eternal rest.
The El-Rufai matriarch died on Friday according to a Facebook post her grandson, Bello El-Rufai.
Bello wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I wish to inform the public of the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.”
The family described the late matriarch as the biological mother of the former governor and prayed for the repose of her soul, expressing gratitude for her life and legacy.
“We are grateful for the life she lived. May Allah bless her gentle soul and grant her Aljannah Firdaus. We also pray for all departed souls. On behalf of the family, we ask for your prayers,” the post added.
