Nigerian-born MMA star Israel Adesanya has insisted his fighting spirit remains intact despite suffering another setback in the octagon, declaring that defeat will not define his legacy.
Adesanya’s latest loss came at the hands of American contender Joe Pyfer, who delivered a commanding performance to secure a second-round technical knockout at UFC Fight Night in Seattle on Saturday night.
The bout initially suggested a possible resurgence for the former middleweight champion, as Adesanya showcased his trademark precision and movement in the opening round, controlling distance and dictating exchanges. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Pyfer weathered the early storm and began to impose his physicality.
The American fighter closed the gap with heavy strikes before executing a decisive takedown. From there, he transitioned into a dominant position, eventually mounting Adesanya and unleashing a barrage of ground strikes. The sustained attack prompted referee Herb Dean to halt the contest in the second round, sealing Pyfer’s biggest career victory.
Despite the outcome, Adesanya struck a resolute tone in his post-fight remarks. In a widely circulated interview clip, the 36-year-old made it clear that his competitive drive remains unshaken.
“I’ll keep coming back again and again. I’m not leaving this sport. You can’t stop me,” he said, adding, “I might get beaten, but I’ll always remain undefeated.”
The defeat extends a difficult run for “The Last Stylebender,” marking his fourth consecutive loss. His recent struggles include previous defeats to Sean Strickland, Dricus du Plessis, and Nassourdine Imavov, the latter of whom stopped him in early 2025.
While the result has intensified scrutiny over Adesanya’s future in the middleweight division, his post-fight stance signals a fighter unwilling to walk away, even as questions continue to mount about what lies ahead in his career.
