The Plateau State Government has announced a 48-hour restriction of movement in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly assault in the Gari Ya Waye area of Angwan Rukuba on Sunday night.

Although the exact casualty figure has yet to be confirmed, the incident is reported to have resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, sparking fear among residents and prompting a swift deployment of security personnel to the affected community.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, explained that the curfew became effective from midnight on March 29 and will remain in place until April 1. She noted that the measure is necessary to contain the situation, prevent further escalation, and restore public order.

According to the government, the attack left several people dead, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Eyewitness accounts indicate that gunfire erupted late Sunday, forcing residents to remain indoors as security operatives moved in to secure the area.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang strongly denounced the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked,” and assured that those responsible would be apprehended. He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Authorities have called on residents to stay calm, remain alert, and support ongoing investigations by sharing credible information with security agencies.

Jos North has experienced recurring security disturbances in recent years, with authorities often resorting to movement restrictions to prevent retaliatory violence and maintain peace.
