The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has announced plans to honour the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at a special convocation ceremony scheduled to hold on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
The event, which will take place at the institute’s Ogba-Ikeja campus in Lagos, will see Adeniyi conferred with a fellowship of the institute in recognition of his contributions to public service and the media sector.
The ceremony is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sir Kesington Adebutu Media Resource Centre.
According to a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Ojemuyiwa, the Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council and former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, will preside over the occasion.
Adeniyi, an alumnus of the institute, is being recognised for what the organisers described as his exceptional leadership and sustained commitment to excellence, particularly in advancing professionalism within the Nigerian media landscape.
“This honour is in recognition of his exceptional leadership, dedication to public service and tireless efforts in promoting excellence in the Nigerian media,” the statement said.
The institute disclosed that the ceremony is expected to attract a wide range of dignitaries, including media executives, security officials, captains of industry, alumni of the institution, and scholars in the field of communication.
The special convocation underscores NIJ’s tradition of celebrating distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to journalism, governance, and national development.
