Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, have endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The decision emerged from a strategic caucus meeting held on Monday at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, which brought together key stakeholders across the state.

Among those present were former governors Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Other aspirants who attended the meeting included Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Isiaka, Tunde Lemo, and Isiak Akinlade.

Speaking after the closed-door session, which lasted about two hours, Governor Abiodun formally announced the outcome, praising party members for their unity and cooperation.

“It gives me great pleasure and on behalf of all of you to congratulate Senator Adeola as our consensus and unanimously selected an elected governorship candidate for the year 2027,” Abiodun declared.

He attributed the development to what he described as a remarkable display of political maturity and sacrifice among party leaders.

“I am so overjoyed about the level of maturity that has been displayed at this meeting this evening. The level of political magnanimity that has been displayed by everyone here this evening.

“That spirit of no victory, no vanquish because we know that for every time somebody wins, others have lost.

“So let us as we celebrate, bear that in mind that there should be no victory, no vanquish.”

The governor, however, cautioned party faithful against complacency, urging them to begin mobilisation efforts ahead of the election.

“So let us remember that just because we now have a candidate does not translate to the fact that we have won the election. We need to now go and prepare for how to win the election,” he said.

In his response, Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, expressed appreciation to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him. He also pledged to sustain and improve upon the developmental strides of previous administrations if elected governor.
