Wife of popular Fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere, Alhaja Hon. Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun Akande, also known as Eruobodo 1, has declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adelakun made her declaration at St. Cyprian Primary School, Ibadan, in the presence of party members, women groups, and supporters drawn from across the constituency.
She said her decision to join the race was motivated by her passion for public service and a desire to provide effective representation for her people.
“I am a people-oriented person. I love to be with people, to represent them, and to speak on their behalf. That is the motivation behind this ambition,” she said.
She pledged to prioritise people-focused leadership, gender inclusion, and integrity if elected into office.
The aspirant also promised to sustain her humanitarian initiatives through her foundation, with particular emphasis on the welfare of women and the girl-child.
“I am a natural giver. Even before deciding to contest, I have always supported people. My care for women and the girl-child will continue because they remain a priority,” she added.
Oyo State APC Women Leader, Felicia Opatunde, welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step toward increasing women’s participation in politics.
She noted that greater involvement of women in elective positions would strengthen democratic governance and improve representation.
“For a long time, women have been marginalised. More women coming out to contest is encouraging and good for our democracy,” she said.
Opatunde also urged eligible citizens to participate actively in the electoral process, calling on women across the state to mobilise and support increased political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
