President Bola Tinubu has extended congratulations to Romuald Wadagni, the President-elect of the Republic of Benin, following his victory in the country’s weekend presidential election.
Wadagni, who currently serves as Benin’s Minister of Finance, reportedly secured a decisive win in the poll, earning broad support from voters across the country.
In a formal letter to the president-elect on Thursday, Tinubu described the outcome as a reflection of public confidence in Wadagni’s leadership and track record in public service.
“This victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian president also noted the longstanding relationship between both nations, emphasising the importance of continued cooperation in key regional areas.
“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation,” he said, adding that he looks forward to working closely with the incoming administration to deepen diplomatic relations and promote stability and economic growth across West Africa.
Tinubu also commended the Beninese authorities and citizens for ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process, describing the transition as an important milestone in the country’s democratic journey.
In his message to Wadagni, the president further expressed optimism about future collaboration between both countries, especially within regional bodies such as ECOWAS and the African Union.
“As you prepare to assume the onerous responsibilities of the high office of the Presidency, I wish you great wisdom, fortitude, and success. You can please rest assured of my unstinting support and cooperation in this regard,” the letter read.
