Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his long-standing association with the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko stated that his decision took effect from April 10, 2026.

“I am tendering my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective from April 10, 2026,” he wrote.

The former governor explained that persistent questions and speculations regarding his political affiliation prompted him to make his position clear.

“Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position. As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” Mimiko said.

He noted that his decision to leave the party was not driven by personal grievances, emphasizing that it was taken in good faith and without ill feelings toward any individual.

The move also follows the earlier defection of several of his political associates, who had aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Many of his loyalists had supported the emergence of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, particularly in the lead-up to the last governorship election, further signaling a shift in political alignment within his camp.
