Obi’s political trouble not physical, Yul Edochie claims

Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has sparked fresh controversy after asserting that the political challenges facing Peter Obi are “not physical,” but rooted in deeper, less visible factors.

He also dismissed the former presidential candidate’s reported move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Edochie argued that Obi’s political struggles go beyond conventional campaign hurdles such as strategy, structure, or party platform.

“It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that,” he wrote, suggesting that the issues confronting Obi’s presidential ambition are fundamental and unlikely to be resolved by switching political parties.

Edochie went on to downplay the significance of Obi’s alleged association with the ADC, describing it as ineffective from the outset.

“Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time,” he stated.

The actor further claimed that Obi may already be aware of these underlying challenges but has chosen to ignore them.

“I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now,” he added.

The remarks have since triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians taking issue with Edochie’s assertions.

A significant number of commenters berated the actor, criticising his remarks as speculative and dismissive, while others defended Obi’s political standing and argued that his support base remains strong.

Some users also questioned what Edochie meant by “deeper” problems, demanding clarification, while others interpreted the comment as an attempt to introduce non-political narratives into the country’s democratic discourse.
