Igbo, Hausa, Fulani are the problems of Nigeria – Joe Igbokwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Joe Igbokwe, has triggered widespread reactions on social media following a controversial post in which he made sweeping claims about Nigeria’s major ethnic groups.

In a Tuesday post on Facebook, Igbokwe attempted to draw comparisons among the country’s three dominant ethnic blocs, but his remarks quickly stirred debate over tone and generalisation.

The Anambra-born wrote, “We have 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria: Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa Fulani. Igbo and Hausa Fulani have become the problem of Nigeria.”

The Lagos-based politician added, “They do not have the cultural competence and emotional intelligence the Yoruba Nation has. May God help.”

The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with many users accusing the APC chieftain of promoting ethnic bias and unnecessary division, while others argue it reflects personal opinion that should not be generalised to entire ethnic nationalities.

As of press time, Igbokwe had not issued any clarification or follow-up statement regarding the post, which continues to circulate widely on social media platforms.
