Another dispatch rider killed in Lagos crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of another dispatch rider following a fatal road accident at Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor in Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, involved a heavy-duty Volvo truck and a dispatch motorcycle.

According to a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, the rider died instantly due to the severity of the collision.

LASTMA operatives on routine patrol were said to have responded swiftly to the scene, securing and cordoning off the area to prevent further accidents, especially given the high volume of traffic along the route.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) took custody of the remains of the deceased, while police officers from Alausa Police Station provided additional security to maintain order during the rescue and evacuation process.

The damaged truck and motorcycle were subsequently cleared from the road, allowing for the gradual restoration of traffic flow.

Despite the prompt intervention, the crash led to significant congestion, with traffic extending towards the Berger axis before normalcy was restored.

Reacting to the development, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed the need for increased caution among road users, particularly dispatch riders and operators of articulated vehicles.

According to him, “LASTMA remains resolute in its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders in intensifying advocacy initiatives aimed at reducing road fatalities and fostering a sustainable culture of road safety across Lagos State.”

Recall that a dispatch rider lost his life in a fatal road accident that occurred on Monday at the Motorways inward Estate axis of Alapere in Lagos.
