Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the commencement of its 2026/2027 Indigeneship Verification Exercise for candidates of Lagos State origin seeking admission into the institution.

The update was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel A. Fanu.

According to the university, eligible candidates are those of Lagos State origin who selected LASU as their first-choice institution in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and scored a minimum of 195.

The statement noted that registration for the exercise opened on Monday, April 27, 2026, and will close on Friday, May 22, 2026.

“All candidates of Lagos State origin who chose Lagos State University as First Choice in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and scored a minimum of 195, are hereby informed that the registration for Indigeneship Verification Exercise for the 2026/2027 admission exercise has commenced,” the statement read.

LASU explained that the verification exercise is compulsory for candidates claiming Lagos State origin, adding that only applicants cleared by the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee would be considered for admission.

“Please note that only candidates who are of Lagos State origin are eligible for this exercise. Candidates in this category are expected to be cleared by the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee before being considered for admission,” it stated.

The university, however, clarified that participation in the exercise does not amount to automatic admission.

“Please note that the Indigeneship Verification Exercise does not guarantee or serve as proof of admission into Lagos State University,” the statement added.

The institution also listed key documents required for the screening, including completed verification forms, UTME result slip, birth certificate, father’s birth certificate, letter from an Oba, local government identification letter and longstanding land documents.

According to the schedule released by the university, the exercise will be conducted in four phases between April 27 and May 22.

Interview venues have been designated across the five divisions of Lagos State, including Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe.

LASU further directed candidates to make payments and complete registration only through its official portal, warning applicants against dealing with unauthorised persons or accounts.

“Any applicant who pays money to any individual, other accounts or through other means aside from the one provided above does so at his or her own risk,” the university warned.

The institution added that Direct Entry applicants of Lagos origin must also undergo the verification process before they can be considered for admission.
