Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will provide Nigerians with a credible political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso made the declaration on Monday while explaining his decision to formally join the NDC alongside former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to him, the move was inspired by a commitment to democratic values and the desire to offer Nigerians a better alternative capable of addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Yesterday, we took a bold and decisive step by formally joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” Kwankwaso said.

“At the residence of Senator Seriake Dickson in Abuja, I announced that our decision stems from a deep commitment to democratic values.

“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential.”

Kwankwaso also called on his supporters and other Nigerians to join the party in what he described as a renewed struggle for good governance and true democracy.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy,” he added.

Kwankwaso and Obi were officially received into the party on Sunday evening during a meeting held at the Abuja residence of former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson.

The event was attended by top party leaders, including NDC National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.

The two opposition leaders were later presented with membership cards at the end of the meeting.

Their defection has fueled speculations that both men may play key roles in the NDC’s plans for the 2027 presidential election.
