The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, on Monday announced the launch of the NBA Smart Identity Card, describing it as a major step toward strengthening the professional identity of lawyers across the country.

Osigwe said the initiative was designed to meet the growing need for secure identification, credibility, and easy verification in the legal profession.

According to him, the Smart ID Card will serve as a modern and verifiable credential for legal practitioners, helping to confirm their status while enhancing their professional image.

He noted that the card would also simplify identification in courts, institutions, and official engagements, enabling lawyers to enjoy seamless recognition in professional settings.

The NBA president added that the card would be useful for lawyers appearing in court, attending conferences, or dealing with clients and government agencies.

On eligibility, Osigwe said young lawyers within zero to seven years post-call would receive the Smart ID Card free of charge.

He explained that lawyers above the seven-year post-call category would be required to pay a processing fee to the designated service provider.

He urged interested members to apply through the official registration portal provided by the association.

Osigwe also advised applicants who submitted requests on April 22 and 23 to reconfirm their applications using the same link.

He described the initiative as a move toward a more secure, efficient, and professionally distinguished Bar, urging members to take advantage of the opportunity.
