Former Bayelsa State Governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Monday said the party is enjoying growing support across the country as it works to establish a stable, ideological political platform.
Dickson, in a statement, thanked Nigerians for their confidence in the party, describing public trust as the key force sustaining the NDC from its early days to the present.
He also hailed the recent entry of two prominent political figures into the party, saying their arrival has strengthened its national outlook and grassroots appeal.
According to him, the NDC now represents a convergence of experienced political leaders, organisers and grassroots mobilisers committed to building a formidable alternative platform.
Dickson said the party’s long-term vision is to create an enduring institution comparable to established political parties across Africa, Europe, America and Asia.
“Our goal in the NDC is to build an ideological political party with stability, structure and the ability to endure beyond its founders for generations to come,” he said.
He added that the party was designed to prioritise young people and women through mentorship, leadership development and inclusive participation.
Dickson said the NDC would serve not only the powerful and privileged, but also ordinary Nigerians and vulnerable groups.
The former governor further disclosed that efforts to register the party began in 2017, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially approved the process before it was suspended.
He explained that when party registration resumed last year, the group updated and resubmitted its earlier application.
Dickson, however, warned that a project of such scale would naturally attract rumours, propaganda and blackmail, urging Nigerians to ignore distractions.
He called on citizens to join the party, register as members, participate actively and contest elections.
“Together, let us reclaim and rebuild our country,” he said.
