The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced plans to carry out a statewide safety audit of its operational facilities as part of renewed efforts to strengthen workplace safety standards, improve efficiency, and enhance overall service delivery.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Mukaila Sanusi, Director of Public Affairs of the agency.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Waste Management Authority, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, made the disclosure on Thursday during an inspection visit to the Transfer Loading Station (TLS) at Simpson on Lagos Island, where he evaluated operational procedures, environmental compliance, and existing safety measures.
According to him, the planned audit will be used to identify operational and safety deficiencies, strengthen compliance frameworks, and ensure that all LAWMA facilities adhere to global best practices in waste management operations.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at promoting safer working conditions for sanitation workers, contractors, and other stakeholders engaged across the Authority’s facilities in Lagos State.
Gbadegesin further noted that staff welfare, operational safety, and environmental sustainability remain central to LAWMA’s mandate, stressing that proactive safety evaluations are essential to reducing risks and improving service efficiency.
During the facility tour, the LAWMA boss interacted with operational staff and facility managers, urging strict adherence to established safety protocols and operational guidelines.
He also commended workers for their commitment and resilience, reaffirming the Authority’s drive toward continuous reforms and infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing sanitation needs of Lagos.
He added that the forthcoming safety audit forms part of broader reforms aimed at repositioning LAWMA as a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible agency focused on public health, workplace safety, and service excellence.
