Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has praised the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, describing him as an exceptionally effective administrator whose performance in office has strengthened governance under President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Friday, Fani-Kayode said his assessment was based on his personal experience working within the Presidency at different times, noting that Gbajabiamila’s role has been central to the coordination of executive functions.

He said, “Let us start by saying that we have both worked in the Presidency twice, and it is our informed opinion that hardly any Chief of Staff to the President has been as effective as Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.”

Explaining the responsibilities of a Chief of Staff, he added, “From our experience and vantage points, what does effectiveness as a Chief of Staff to a President look like? The answer is that it involves managing the day-to-day affairs around the President and facilitating the executive function of the Commander-in-Chief, so that the Principal can focus on leadership rather than management.”

Fani-Kayode further stated that Gbajabiamila had performed “brilliantly” in the role over the past three years, arguing that his effectiveness had contributed to smoother governance and reduced tension within the executive arm.

He said, “And over the last three years, this has been done brilliantly. Which, perhaps, explains why President Bola Tinubu publicly expressed his confidence in his Chief of Staff.”

He also credited Gbajabiamila with improving coordination between the Presidency, the ruling party, and subnational governments, adding that his influence had been acknowledged across political divides.

According to him, “Gbajabiamila has used access to process progress for the President, his party, and the nation. It is why multiple Governors from various parties, different geopolitical zones, and diverse cultural backgrounds have publicly testified to the efficacy and impact of the Chief of Staff.”

Citing examples, he referenced commendations from governors including Sheriff Oborevwori, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and Ademola Adeleke, who reportedly described the Chief of Staff in various positive terms such as “seasoned administrator,” “patriot,” and “exceptional administrator.”

Fani-Kayode also praised Gbajabiamila’s organisational abilities and legislative experience, linking them to his leadership of the House of Representatives between 2019 and 2023, which he described as a relatively stable period.

He said, “In terms of organisational prowess, he is at a near-genius level. And this may have to do with his experience as Speaker of the House of Representatives for four years.”

On executive-legislative relations, he added, “And his impeccable people skills are why 2019–2023 was the most rancour-free period in the House of Representatives, and why 2023 to date is the ONLY period in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic without Executive/Legislative tension.”

Fani-Kayode further praised Gbajabiamila’s communication strategy and public engagement, saying his social media presence had helped highlight government achievements.

He also referenced Gbajabiamila’s personal religious tolerance, noting his participation in Easter celebrations despite being a Muslim, which he said countered narratives about the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Concluding the statement, he expressed full support for the Chief of Staff, saying, “Carry on the good job. Be encouraged. Your presence in the present is excellent, and you are very much appreciated.”
