Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have successfully rescued a kidnapped woman, Jemila Ibrahim, and arrested five suspected members of the kidnapping gang following a coordinated bush-combing operation along Okpege River Road in Iyuku.
According to a statement issued by ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Command on Tuesday, the operation was carried out on 13 May 2026 at about 7:30 p.m., after sustained intelligence-led search efforts targeting forested areas believed to be used as hideouts by criminal elements.
The victim, who was abducted on 10 May 2026, was found alive and unhurt. She was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination and further care after her rescue.
During the same operation, security operatives apprehended five suspects allegedly linked to the abduction. They include Nura Saminu (24), Shaibu Isah (23), Suraj Sabitu (23), Yajubu Sagiru (23), and Oseni Abdullahi (26).
The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives involved in the successful rescue mission, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, praised their professionalism and swift response.
He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying efforts against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Edo State.
The Command further assured residents of continued security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring safety in affected communities.
