Seized law degree: Uniuyo graduate wins institution, lecturers in court

Eno-obong Bassey Okon, a graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Uyo has defeated the institution and some of his senior lecturers at the Supreme Court.

Okon and the institution, alongside the senior lawyers were in court over the seizure of his law degree by the school authorities.

The young lawyer, in a viral post, narrated the journey of dragging the institution to court in order to claim his degree, which his lecturers had allegedly vowed he was not going to get.

The 2012 graduate stated that he won the institution and law professors at the Federal High Court Uyo, Appeal Court and now the Supreme Court with over N22 million awarded to him for damages.

Okon wrote, “Today I won the University of Uyo at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In 2012 I graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University and some certain Professors and Senior Advocates said I would never obtain my law degree. I got it anyway.

“Long story cut short, I sued the University at the Federal High Court Uyo, and won. Damages of over 5 million were awarded in my favor. The legal dons said it was luck and went on appeal to the Court of Appeal, but I still won them.

“They took the matter to the Supreme Court only to realize it would be too hard to beat me in court. They resorted to using the police to harass, intimidate, and arrest me.
That gave me a fresh course of action and I sued them again winning over 22 million. They filed multiple appeals and I won them in all.

“Today their final anchor at the Supreme Court has been torn apart.”

He thanked God and his legal friends who were on the battlefield with him for their support, noting that “intelligence is not in big names and titles”.
