Nigerian human-rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has claimed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested and detained three police officers over their involvements in the planned police protest.
Recall that the activist had earlier invited both serving and retired police officers to join a protest he is organising to fight low salary payment in the force.
He disclosed that the July 21, 2025 is to demand an increase in salary for all officers, adding that no policeman should earn less than N300,000 to N500,000.
In a recent post, Sowore claimed that three officers have been arrested from Ondo, Lagos and Ogun States over their involvement in the protest.
He said the officers have been transferred to Abuja on the order of the Inspector Generalof Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
He wrote, “There have been reports of the arrest of Insp. Emoruwa Olabode from Idanre Division in Ondo state, Otamere Ewamade (aka Hero), and Fasoyin Ayodeji from an unspecified division in Lagos State, with their subsequent transfer to Abuja. Furthermore, it is alleged that another policeman from Ogun State is being illegally detained due to comments made in a WhatsApp group.
“We are seeking urgent information regarding their location in Abuja, which is reportedly being concealed by operatives from the Force Investigation Department. (FID). Any information leading to their place of detention or IPOs would be greatly appreciated.
“It has been alleged that Illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun is punishing them for their comments suggesting that as his kinsmen (Yorubas) in the police force, they should not be opposing him. We must state clearly stating that the retired IGP, who is illegally occupying the IGP’s office is the biggest obstacle obstructing efforts to improve policing and police welfare.”
