Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has stated that new states can’t be created in Nigeria.

The former lawmaker, said this in a post he made on X, advising those clamouring for state creation to stop wasting their time and resources.

According to the former member of the Nigerian Senate, it is best for citizens to master the act of peaceful coexistence instead of hoping for new states to be created.

The former senator representing Kaduna Central noted that the process of state creation is constitutionally complex, adding that it’s not something that can be done by a mere presidential proclamation.

“People asking for the creation of new states should stop wasting their time and resources. They should learn to live with each other in peace. Read the constitution to know the complications. It’s not something which the President will just proclaim or announce,” he wrote.

In recent times, calls for the creation of additional states have increased.
