Opposition parties not as formidable as they should be, says Deji Adeyanju

Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju on Thursday said opposition parties are not formidable enough to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The lawyer faulted the endorsement of President Tinubu’s second term bid by opposition governors and politicians.

He noted that the position of the present opposition parties is laughable when compared to the opposition in 2013/2014.

In a post made on his verified Facebook, Adeyanju wrote, “All opposition governors and most politicians that should be in opposition with Tinubu have endorsed him for a second term except Atiku, Obi & co fighting for the presidential ticket in ADC. When I remember how formidable the opposition was in 2013/2014, I just laugh.”

Recall that notable opposition figures had in the past endorsed the second term bid of President Tinubu, reducing the impact of the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the flag-off of the Akwa Ibom section of the Lagos to Calabar highway, Governor Umo Eno, while still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) threw his weight behind President Tinubu’s re-election. Shortly after, the governor defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Also, in May, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State publicly endorsed Tinubu’s ambition even though he is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Earlier this week, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the leadership of the PDP in the state threw their weight behind the re-election bid of President Tinubu in 2027.
