A police officer, Inspector Philemon Akawu has been killed by suspected hoodlums while on special duty in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was confirmed to Daily Post by police sources who said the officer was ambushed and killed in a bush close to the security camp at about 7:30 AM on Wednesday while performing his duties.
The sources said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bokkos visited the scene of the crime when the report got to him.
According to the sources the body of the deceased was immediately evacuated and deposited at Luna Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Investigations have been launched and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those behind the heinous act.
Akawu was posted from the Department of Operations (DOPS) in Jos and had been assigned to Yelwa Nono for reinforcement duty due to rising security threats in the area.
