Delta elder statesman urges Omo-Agege to drop 2027 governorship ambition

A prominent elder statesman and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun Morrison Olori, has advised former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to abandon his plans to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Olori made this call while addressing journalists at his residence in Ughelli, Delta State, on Sunday.

According to Olori, it would be a “political mistake” for Omo-Agege to challenge incumbent Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the APC ticket in the next gubernatorial election.

He expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori would be overwhelmingly reelected by Deltans, citing the governor’s good work and legacy projects across the state.

Olori, who supported Omo-Agege’s 2023 governorship ambition, urged the senator to prioritise the stability of the political space and support Governor Oborevwori’s second term bid, noting that Oborevwori is already delivering on the promises that Omo-Agege campaigned for, and that President Bola Tinubu fully supports the governor’s reelection.

The elder statesman also called on Deltans to support Governor Oborevwori beyond 2027, enabling him to deliver his MORE Agenda of infrastructural and industrial development in the state.

In a similar vein, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi had earlier pleaded with Omo-Agege to support Governor Oborevwori’s second term bid. Olori urged Omo-Agege to heed their advice and avoid a potentially futile contest.
