The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hudeyin, has called for media objectivity in reporting, urging outlets to prioritise balanced and accurate coverage.
He made the admonition in a post he made via X on Sunday regarding reports that the police tried to stop the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest through the court.
Making reference to a story published by a notable media house, Hudeyin said that at no point did the police seek a court injunction to stop the protests, emphasising citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.
He wrote, “Our media houses need to be objective in their reports.
“At no point did the police approach the court to stop protests. It is an inalienable right of Nigerians. The case was also not adjourned to Tuesday as mentioned in this report.
“It is sadly obvious the entire report is based on a one-sided narration, not investigative journalism.”
Earlier, the protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, claimed, “IG of PoliceNG Kayode Egbetokun dispatched police lawyers to sue me, in an effort to halt the FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Aso Rock Villa on Monday.”
