The Nigerian Army has neutralised several suspected terrorists during a coordinated security operation in Kogi State, following an intelligence-led raid along identified bandit crossing routes in the Adankolo Forest Reserve, Lokoja Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade under Operation TIGER PAW II as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
In a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Public Relations Officer of the 12 Brigade, troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists within the forest corridor.
He said personnel of the Brigade’s Quick Response Group laid an ambush at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, before making contact with the armed group.
According to the statement, the troops engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, during which several terrorists were killed, while others escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
Following the encounter, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, six magazines and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Other items recovered at the scene included a camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks and the sum of ₦62,900.
The Army said troops are currently combing the general area to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
It added that the successful operation underscores the military’s sustained commitment to denying terrorists freedom of movement and safeguarding communities, major roads and strategic locations across the state.
